TheMinistry of Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry ofTransport of the Government of the Republic of Yemen – Sana’a indicate thesuccessful completion of the repair work on the three submarine cables (AAE-1,EIG, SEACOM) in the Yemeni waters in the Red Sea, which suffered a malfunctionin late February.
Recognizingthe critical importance of protecting the infrastructure of licensedinternational submarine cables and keenness on their safety due to theirrelevance to development and humanitarian aspects that serve citizens in theRepublic of Yemen and in the rest of the world, the Yemeni government hasprovided the necessary facilitation and permits through the Maritime AffairsAuthority in Sana’a for the maintenance vessels to smoothly and successfullyconduct repair operations in the Red Sea.
TheYemeni government reaffirms its keenness to ensuring the safety of submarinecables and that the Yemeni territorial waters are entirely safe for theinternational submarine cables, as previously stated by the Ministry ofTelecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Transport.Additionally, it urges all stakeholdersevrryone to ensure the safety ofsubmarine cables from potential risks.
TheYemeni government also seeks to push the completion of submarine cable projectsin territorial waters, including the Red Sea, out of its interest in enhancingglobal communication services.
Wereiterate the importance of the implementation of cable branches belonging tothe Republic of Yemen as a crucial and fundamental step to push the submarinecable projects forward as Yemen participates with large investments in theseprojects. It is a clear position that stems from attention to the interests ofthe Yemeni people by protecting their investments and their rights to obtainaccess to basic services. This is in addition to Sana’a’s commitment torespecting agreements with its international and regional partners.
Wealso emphasize the necessity of respecting the rights of the Yemeni people tobenefit from their investments and ensuring the continuity of essentialservices to Yemeni citizens, and the importance of regional and internationalstakeholders contribution to supporting the continuity of Yemeni nationaltelecommunications institutions and the completion of their projects asneutralizing this vital sector and avoiding its involvement in politicalconflicts and disputes will help advance the stalled submarine cable projectsin the Red Sea and enhance joint cooperation in protecting the submarine cablespassing through Yemeni territorial waters.
